2022 "Sajana" Red Wine

Draped in a dark hue, the wine beckons with an alluring depth that hints at the complex symphony within. Unveiling itself with the initial dance of dark fruits, the aromatic overture entices the senses. As the wine breathes, an earthy nose emerges, adorned with delicate notes of fresh figs and a subtle hint of plums and baking spices. On the palate, “Sajana” opens with an exuberant display of juiciness, a celebration of dark fruit-forward notes that captivate from the first sip. 2020 "Sajana" Red Wine

Initial aromatic notes of dark fruits lead to an earthy nose of cocoa powder, along with a touch of anise as the wine opens up in the glass. The flavors of this medium-to-full-bodied wine start out juicy and dark on the palate. After some aeration, it develops depth and structure, with balanced fruit-forward and earthy flavors. Secondary flavors of mocha, wild berries and currant come wrapped in a package of polished tannins. With a delicious, lush mouthfeel, the wine is ready for immediate enjoyment, though we have no doubt that this bottling will also reward patient cellaring!

Grapes grown at Stagecoach Vineyard®, a Napa Valley site known to produce wines of great power and complexity, never fail to deliver, and the vineyard’s Cabernet Franc vines consistently live up to this potential. The challenging growing conditions in ‘20 nevertheless provided PV365 with a textbook version of this noble Bordeaux variety. In the glass, the wine starts out with aromas of dark chocolate, ripe blueberries, and a hint of spice. The palate is a rich, complex mouthful of black currant, tobacco, and dried cherries. The ’20 Cabernet Franc’s textural characteristics offer the promise of years of cellar-worthiness, with sexy silky
texture, polished tannins, densely entwined flavors, and great focus!

2018 Cabernet Franc

The lush, ample fruit harvested in 2018 has translated to an approachable, but still very powerful, Cabernet Franc. Aromatic notes of blue and red fruit, violets, and black tea mingle in the glass, along with a touch of caramel from barrel aging. The juicy, expansive palate is defined by Cab Franc’s classic blueberry and red currant flavors, framed by polished grape tannins and some sweet, toffee-like oak tannin. More fruit-forward and approachable in its youth, yet just as cellar-worthy, Cabernet Franc can represent a stylistic departure from the full-bodied, muscular red wines so closely associated with Napa Valley. Our 2017 Cab Franc is no exception: produced from grapes grown in the stunning Stagecoach Vineyard on Atlas Peak, the wine is high-toned, medium-bodied, and quite complex. Redolent of berries, dark chocolate, and tobacco, it possesses tannin structure and ample acidity, components that ensure ageability.

“Surya is a Cabernet Franc-dominated release that includes 2% Merlot and roughly 1% each of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec. Coming all from the Stagecoach Vineyard and aged 22 months in 50% new French oak, it has a more open, spicy, expressive style in its red fruits, cedary herbs, savory flowers, and smoked tobacco, with a kiss of background oak. It's a much more floral, perfumed, finesse-driven release compared to the Cabernet Sauvignon and is medium-bodied, has a supple, soft mouthfeel, fi ne tannins, and a great finish. “The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is almost all Cabernet Sauvignon yet includes 3% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec, and a tiny splash of Cabernet Franc, all of which spent 22 months in 60% new French oak. It has a classic varietal nose of bright blue fruits as well as ample minty herb, floral, tobacco, and cedary wood notes. These all carry to a medium-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with a ripe, round mouthfeel, fine tannins, and outstanding length. Something special seems to happen with the Moulds’ fruit grown on the western benchlands of the Oak Knoll District. Their uniquely situated property is one of Napa Valley’s most ideal spots to grow super-concentrated, but balanced, Cabernet Sauvignon. The challenging but ultimately successful 2020 growing conditions allowed PV365 to bottle such a wine. The Cabernet’s aromas are a complex array of currants and spice, with intriguing, velvet-smooth butterscotch and mocha notes adding even more complexity on the nose. On the palate, a balanced combination of red and black fruits, bright, high-toned acidity, and a long finish framed by smooth, integrated tannins make for a wonderfully expressive and full-bodied Napa Cabernet—a wine built for aging, but good luck trying to wait!

The best Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons offer consistent flavors and aromas, but depending on where they grow in the Valley, vines can work in different ways. With our 2018 Cabernet, crafted from the exquisite J Squared Vineyard in the Coombsville AVA of southeast Napa, fruit tends to ripen late in the growing season. This additional hangtime gives rich flavors of cherries and plums, bright acidity, and fully developed tannins. Our resulting ’18 is approachable at this early stage of its life, but the wine’s firm structure suggests years of cellar potential.
